A family that makes things fly.
SkySpirit is a family-owned studio of engineers and artists in Stuttgart, and for 19 years we have been doing the thing we love most: making the impossible float.
Fascinated by nature, robotics and the old dream of flying, we explore new technologies hand in hand — and turn them into experiences that people remember for the rest of their lives.
It started with two students and one question: what if it could fly?

The fusion of high-tech, art and science is Agalya’s trademark. Her creations are inspired by nature, rise into the sky, and interact with the people who see them.

Kristof leads the technology: robotics, embedded systems, image processing and the tracking system that flies every object with millimeter precision.
Agalya and Kristof met in 2006 as students in Stuttgart. They started working together on autonomy, robotics and embedded systems — and that work grew into immersive art installations seen around the world, and into educational products that bring the same wonder into classrooms.

Inspired by nature
Birds, dragonflies, jellyfish, blossoms. Nature has solved flight a thousand ways — we keep learning from it.
Everything in-house
Design, embedded electronics, software, computer vision, 6D tracking and prototyping — all under one roof, so nothing gets lost between suppliers.
Make the impossible possible
Our favourite projects start with “that can’t be done”. A concrete block that floats. A fish that swims through air.
Wonder that teaches
We want people to leave curious. That is why our art also lives in classrooms, as education kits used around the world.
History
Almost twenty years of firsts.
- 2006
Agalya and Kristof meet as students in Stuttgart.
- 2007
They start working together on autonomy, robotics and embedded systems. The family business is born.
- 2008
World’s first autonomous underwater robot swarm — the AquaJellies, featured in GEO magazine.
- 2009
World’s first autonomous flying swarm.
- 2011
We technically decipher bird flight: SmartBird, presented on the TED stage and seen by 14 million people.
- 2013
Our lanterns begin flying every night at Lotte World, Seoul — a nightly show that ran until 2019.
- 2015
First media-kinetic show where flying objects interact with the virtual — Mercedes-Benz at the IAA.
- 2017
Opening ceremony of EXPO 2017. A human-interactive orb swarm in London. “Drifter” takes off in New York.
- 2018
A flying car joins the Marvel Avengers at Disneyland Paris.
- 2019
Guinness World Record — BionicOpter, the largest flying robotic insect.
- 2020
AI Blossom: our first solo exhibition, fusing art and education. Our first education kit ships worldwide.
- 2021
“Drifter” at The Shed, New York City.
- 2024
Flying fish in Xi’an — the world’s largest indoor flying show, and another Guinness World Record.
- Today
Still family-owned. Still in Stuttgart. Still getting goosebumps at every first flight.

Because we build everything ourselves, we move fast, we don’t depend on third parties, and we can adapt anything to your space. It is also why we can promise to stay with you for as long as your installation flies.
