“Drifter” — A Floating Concrete Monolith on World Tour

How do you make a block of concrete weightless? That was the question Studio Drift brought to us.
Drifter is a utopian vision: a concrete monolith — the basic building unit of our world — floating silently towards an unknown destination, searching to be part of something bigger. It asks the audience to dream the improbable.
What we built
We made the impossible fly. Each monolith follows a controlled three-dimensional path at slow speed, rotating on every axis, with great accuracy — directly above the heads of the spectators. In the latest version, five Drifters move together as a group.
Where it has been
From the Armory Show and The Shed in New York to Amsterdam, Saudi Arabia and the Amos Rex museum in Helsinki, Drifter has become one of the most recognised kinetic artworks of the decade.
